Water everywhere?

Call first, read this second. A Hartley answers, day or night, and talks you through stopping the water while the van's on its way.

While you wait

Three things to do right now.

  1. Hands turning a brass shut-off valve on a copper pipe
    1

    Turn off the water

The main stop valve is usually where the pipe comes into the house: basement, crawl space or under the kitchen sink. Turn it clockwise until it stops.

  2. A plumber in red gloves working on a water heater
    2

    Power off the heater

If the leak is near the water heater, switch its power or gas to off. Keep clear of water near sockets.

  3. Mike Hartley checking a crawl-space opening outside a house
    3

    Call a Hartley

We'll stay on the phone until the water's stopped, then send the nearest van. Usually there within the hour.

Questions

Night-time questions.

What counts as an emergency?

Water you can't stop, no water at all, a sewage backup, or a frozen pipe in winter. If you smell gas near the heater, call your gas company first.

How fast can you get here?

Across Dayton, usually within the hour. Our van map shows who's nearest.

Is it more expensive at night?

A flat $75 between 10pm and 7am, told to you before we set off. The job price itself doesn't change.
